The Port of Drammen is an intermodal hub where cars and containers are loaded directly from sea to rail. The port offers efficient cargo handling 24/7 and has several rail tracks few meters from the quays. This enables efficient and environmentally friendly transfers from ship to rail.
In 2016, Bane NOR (the owner of the railway network in Norway) invested 400 million NOK in a new rail terminal at the port. Two new arrival tracks for freight trains, grade-separated crossings, and five new tracks with ramps for loading cars onto trains were established.
Shifting transportation from road to rail and sea are important climate initiatives that help the transport sector reduce emissions.
